Meeting of South Asia Conference of Professional Social Workers

Presented a Paper on introduction of Rehabilitation Social Work as specialization in Schools of Social Work at the South Asian Conference of Professional Social Workers held at Bangalore on 27-28 August 2015 in Bangalore, India. There is a serious shortage of RSWs in India. We need more than 10,000 immediately. I volunteer to help the Schools of Social Work to start the course. Check the detailed paper on the site

Meetings attended

Attended a meeting on National Consultation on Research Agenda organized by
Rehabilitation Council of India at Indian Spinal Injury Centre, New Delhi held on 29th December, 2014. The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellors, Indian Institutes of Technology and Very Senior Experts in the field of Rehab. The Secretary, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India were among those who attended. Incidentally, the Department of Disability Affairs has now been (8th December 2014) renamed as Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, which sounds better

Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) Program in vocational rehabilitation

Conducted CRE program for Rehab Professionals at VExcel, an organization working for intellectually impaired persons in Chennai, India from 18 to 22 November 2014. About 30 professionals mainly from the field of Special Education in Intellectual Impairment, autism, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities participated. Topics included Job analysis, task analysis, job identification, open employment, Self Employment, supported employment services, home bound employment, self help groups and cooperatives. Issues in placement in all these economic empowerment programs were discussed in detail
